Tourism & Climate Change in Morocco Mediterranean Region: Local solutions for our global challenge
Hosted by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, the Rural Tourism Network of Southern Morocco (RDTR), Agadir University and the Atlas Kasbah Ecolodge will organize a conference forum in Agadir, on June 8-9 2012. It will be on the theme “Tourism and climate change in Morocco and the Mediterranean Region: Local solutions for our global challenge”.
This Conference-forum is based on a desire to develop local solutions to the fundamental issues associated with climate change. In fact current research has clearly highlighted the problems but there are few practical solutions that have been applied largely because, to date, the focus has been global rather than local.
The objectives of this conference forum are to generate greater understanding, encourage exchange and ‘move-to-action” because the tourism industry must continue to develop a sustainable development approach, particularly in vulnerable regions such as the Mediterranean Basin and the Kingdom of Morocco.
The goal will be to generate practical adaptive solutions so that destinations and tourism stakeholders can identify solutions to mitigate the impacts of tourism on climate change and the influences of climate change on tourism. There will be ample opportunities to exchange ideas and assess best practices and initiatives.
The coordinating Office of the Global partnership will be attending the conference forum
