Association of Hotels and Restaurants – Mauritius (AHRIM)
AHRIM is a non-profitable organization set up in 1973 to represent and promote the interests of hotels and restaurants in Mauritius. As such, the Association has played and is still playing a crucial role in tourism sector. It is also an active stakeholder and partner of Government in tourism-related policy formulation with a common aim of promoting sustainable development of the Mauritian tourism industry. Today, AHRIM represents 80 % of hotels in Mauritius.
Benin Ecotourism Concern (Eco-Benin)
NGO created in 1999 as an organization for nature promotion in Benin through ecotourism. The general mission is to ensure better living standards of communities through ecotourism and eco-development promotion as sustainable management of natural resources.
Eco-Benin is a member of the International Ecotourism Society and a pioneer in the creation of the national network of responsible tourism in Benin. It also has a department working as an incoming tour operator.
The Brazilian Ministries of Environment and Tourism are working together to improve the environmental sustainability of national tourism development strategies. Main areas of cooperation include pioneering the development of raising awareness campaigns to tourists- the Green Passport, the Cup Parcs project, support to community based tourism and development of Brazilian standards for sustainable tourism among others.
Brazil’s campaign has been so successful that it recently recognized as one of the country’s most prominent advertising campaigns. Paraty, a city in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, is implementing Green Passport principles on a pilot basis. Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and partners are working to improve the sustainability of the destination, by supporting and promoting capacity-building, environmental education and sustainable food production and consumption, community-based ecotourism initiatives and implementing the agenda 21 at destination level.

The interdisciplinary Center located at East Carolina University implements sustainable practices in business operations, public policy and personal traveler behaviors. It embodies innovation in graduate education, leadership development, community consultation and collaborative research, offering solutions to challenges facing the tourism industry and destination communities. Priority is placed on balancing economic viability with socio-cultural and environmental enhancement and equity.
Ecotourism Kenya promotes responsible tourism practices within the tourism industry. This entails encouraging the adoption of best practices in the use of tourism resources, working with local communities and managing wastes and emissions.
ECOTRANS is a leading European network of experts and organisations in Tourism, Environment and regional development, who are seeking to promote good practice in the field of sustainable Tourism.
