TripAdvisor announces the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Program to help travelers find and book green hotels and B&Bs

With eco-conscious travel increasing in popularity and many properties finding ways to become environmentally friendly, TripAdvisor is making it easy for travelers to find and book green places to stay.

TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, worked with the help of the United Nations Environment Programme and other green industry experts to create the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Program. The program recognizes hotels and B&Bs for their environmentally friendly practices, from recycling and composting to green roofing and solar panels.

A hotel or B&B that meets the program’s criteria is highlighted with a green leaf badge on the TripAdvisor website. The green leaf badge helps these properties stand out to potential guests who care about going green. Travelers can click on this badge to see all of the green practices available at the property.

More than 1,000 U.S. properties are already participating in the program including Best Western, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and Select Registry. The properties accepted into the program are leading the industry with their green efforts. While there is a range of compelling reasons for hotels to become more environmentally friendly, including cost savings and increased bookings, many of the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders choose to go green because they feel it benefits their employees, communities and regions to be environmentally conscious.
