Sustainable Travel

Sustainable Travel is more inclusive than the familiar terms “green travel” or “ecotourism”. It is defined as “tourism that respects both local people and the traveler, cultural heritage and the environment”. It protects the people and the place.

The principles of sustainable tourism are:
  • To protect the destination by applying management techniques that preserve the natural habitats and scenic appeal.
  • To conserve resources by supporting businesses that reduce pollution, waste and energy consumption.
  • To respect local culture by teaching visitors to deal with foreign customs that may differ from their own and celebrating local etiquette.
  • To aim for quality. Tourism success is measured by length of stay and quality of experience and not just by the number of travelers.

Throughout the site, you’ll find tips on how you can travel sustainably (or responsibly!) to your favorite destinations, as well as, links to other helpful resources.

Safe and sustainable travels to you!
